NCL Study Finds Travellers Want More Travel, Less Stress

NCL Study Finds Travellers Want More Travel, Less Stress

As 2026 begins, new data from Norwegian Cruise Line finds travellers are reimagining the way they vacation. A recent YouGov survey conducted on behalf of NCL shows that more than half of travellers plan to adopt a more mindful and intentional approach to travel in 2026.

This evolving mindset aligns with the growing “Joy of Missing Out” movement, which encourages people to move beyond bucket-list pressure and packed itineraries in favour of trips rooted in presence, flexibility, and the freedom to focus on what matters most.

The survey findings reinforce this trend. Nearly 80% of respondents say they are planning more stress-free travel experiences in 2026, and 86% want meaningful time away from everyday distractions. More than 60% would happily swap a full day of sightseeing for uninterrupted relaxation. Additionally, four out of five travelers value the flexibility to shape each day of their vacation based on how they feel in the moment.

Travel companions are also being chosen with intention. Over 40% of respondents plan to travel with a partner or spouse to enjoy dedicated time together. Family trips continue to be popular, with 30% organizing multigenerational getaways. Meanwhile, one in 10 are planning trips with friends, focused on shared experiences and relaxation.

“Wave Season is the perfect moment for travelers to design a getaway that reflects who they are and what they need,” said Marc Kazlauskas, president at Norwegian Cruise Line.

“Mindful and intentional travel is more than a trend; it’s a long‑lasting shift toward meaningful experiences. Travellers want the freedom to design their own journey, and with NCL, every detail is curated to make that possible. ‘It’s Different Out Here’ isn’t just our brand promise — it’s how we deliver effortless escapes, true flexibility and the space to be fully present.”

NCL is currently offering its popular Second Guest Sails Free promotion on all cruises, combinable with its Free at SeaTM  package, which delivers guest-favourite amenities, including the most valuable beverage package at sea, Wi-Fi, dining experiences and shore excursion credits, as well as free airfare for the second guest.
