As Canadians Seek Winter Options, Belize Raises its Hand
by Bruce Parkinson
Belize is increasingly popular with Canadian sun seekers.
Central America’s English-speaking Belize says it is a top choice for Canadian travellers seeking sunshine, culture and great experiences, just a short trip away.
Just last month, a brand new Air Canada weekly route from Montréal added to the British Commonwealth member’s accessibility. Direct seasonal service is also available from Toronto with both Air Canada and WestJet, as well as from Calgary with WestJet. All of these options ensure Canadians are never more than 4-6 hours from Belize – closer than many travellers think.
Across Belize, hotels are offering deals for Canadians booking a winter getaway to the country’s blue waters and rainforests:
- Travellers save 15% at both Almond Beach and Jaguar Reef in Hopkins, The Rainforest Lodge at Sleeping Giant in Belmopan, and Umaya Resort & Adventures in Placencia for bookings made before 15 March, covering travel through 20 March.
- Discounts of 25% are available at Mun’Oyo resorts including Copal Tree Lodge in Punta Gorda and the offshore Thatch Caye Resort for Canadians booking travel into September.
- Up to $250 CAD off is on the menu as Manta Island Resort awaits Canadians who book two-bedroom reef villas, or $125 CAD for Oceanfront Cabanas.
- Sunbreeze Hotel – San Pedro, offers 35% Off Winter Escape, a strong winter value with more than a third off nightly rates for stays through February 20, 2026.
- Grand Caribe – San Pedro is doing a Stay 6 Nights, Pay for 5, a winter‑sun bonus night for island travellers looking to extend their Belize escape, valid now through March 30, 2026.

All over Belize, a strong line up of events will showcase its unique culture from January through May – perfect for travellers looking for take part in cultural festivities.
Placencia Sidewalk Art Festival (7-8 February) is an iconic experience along a 4000 foot street that’s just four feet wide, providing a chance to purchase one-of-a-kind souvenirs by local creators.
Maya Day (March) brings travellers face to face with living Mayan culture through food and dance.
Beyond the Blue (22-25 April) is Belize’s premier diving event that invites up to 50 certified divers for four-days experiences across the country’s reefs and shoreline while celebrating its preservation efforts. Participants need to register.
Other annual events this winter include the Baron Bliss Harbour Regatta (8 March) and the traditional Semana Santa in Benque Viejo del Carmen (starting 29 March). San Pedro-Ambergris Caye hosts its annual Carnival (14-17 Feb.) with colorful celebrations. Reef Week (14-21 March) invites travellers to join clean-up events and educational activities to engage more with preserving the nation’s all-important coral reefs.
Canadian travellers don’t need a visa to visit Belize. The revamped digital embarkation/disembarkation form, now in its second year, reduces any barriers to getting in and out of the country.
