Barbados Campaign Celebrates Personal Connections
by Bruce Parkinson
Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) has launched a new global destination campaign highlighting the personal connections and warm welcomes that keep visitors coming back.
Dubbed ‘Barbados Remembers Your Name,’ the campaign aims to capture what makes the island memorable and a ‘home away from home’ for many travellers.
BTMI’s Loyal Visitors Club, which recognizes travellers once they have visited the island 25 times, has more than 500 registered members, with some visitors recording more than 100 trips to Barbados. When asked what keeps them returning, one answer comes up consistently — the people.
“We hear from repeat visitors all the time that the people are a big part of why they come back to Barbados,” said BTMI Chief Executive Officer Andrea Franklin. “Over time, they build relationships here. They have people who remember them and places they always return to, and those connections become part of their Barbados experience.”

Those relationships will be an important part of how the new campaign comes to life, with BTMI sharing the stories of visitors and the Barbadians they have come to know over years of travelling to the island.
Among the many stories that make Barbados memorable for visitors, Ed and Pat Traver’s stands out as a testament to the island’s unique charm. The couple has been married for 37 years and have made Barbados their home away from home for the past 33 years.
“When we first started coming, we were only visiting for one week at a time. We’d always talk to people and they would say they’d been coming for four or five weeks. We thought, ‘How could people do that?’ Now we’re the ones doing it,” Ed recalls with a smile.
Over the years, the Travers have found countless reasons to return. “We just love it. We love the people, we love the food, the weather, and we feel very safe here,” Ed adds.
For Pat, Barbados has become much more than just a winter escape. She has fallen in love with the island’s cuisine and culture, savouring local favourites like flying fish, enjoying a chilled glass of rum punch, and sailing along the picturesque coastline on a catamaran.
Their story is one of many across the island. From restaurant owners and vendors to taxi drivers, hotel employees, tour guides and small business owners, the people visitors meet often become part of the memories — and the traditions — they build around Barbados.
Anderson King, Director of Marketing at BTMI, said the campaign provides an opportunity to tell a part of the destination story that is not always captured through traditional tourism advertising.
“We wanted a campaign that could work globally while still feeling unmistakably Barbadian,” King said. “Barbados Remembers Your Name gives us a platform to tell many different stories about the destination, but with that same idea of familiarity and connection running through all of them.”
Barbados Remembers Your Name begins rolling out across the island’s key international markets from September 2026.

Reflecting a commitment to strengthening its local presence as the organization continues to expand within the Canadian market, BTMI recently announced the appointment of industry veteran Michèle Rauzon as its Business Development Representative in Quebec.
