The Martinique Tourism Authority (CMT) was proud to officially present the women’s second-place trophy for the 2025 TransMartinique to Canadian athlete Geneviève Asselin-Demers.
Held at the CMT Canada office, the ceremony celebrated and recognized the longstanding ties between the French Caribbean destination and the Canadian trail and hiking community.
In highlighting Asselin-Demers’ achievement, the CMT acknowledges an exceptional triumph on one of the Caribbean’s most challenging trail courses.
The TransMartinique comprises a 134 km race, serving as the island’s marquee trail event and drawing hundreds of international runners annually. Across seven categories, participants journey from Martinique’s northern peaks to its southern shores, experiencing the island’s remarkable landscapes in a way that blends athletic challenge with immersive outdoor exploration. The event showcases Martinique’s appeal as a premier destination for trail running, nature, and outdoor adventure.
Madame Bénédicte di Géronimo, President of the Martinique Tourism Authority, applauded both the event organizers and the Canadian athlete:
“I extend my sincere thanks to the Manikou Club, the organizers behind the TransMartinique, for delivering an exceptional 2025 edition and for their unwavering dedication to the growth of trail running in Martinique. I congratulate Ms. Geneviève Asselin-Demers on her remarkable performance and commend the commitment of Ms. Renée Marie-Ange, President of the Manikou Club, whose leadership is central to the visibility of both the TransMartinique and Martinique’s trail community. Their combined efforts continue to strengthen the event’s international standing and the destination’s global appeal.”

Upon receiving her trophy, Geneviève Asselin-Demers shared her reflections:
“Although the TransMartinique 134 is an incredibly demanding race, it will always stand out as an unforgettable experience. The warm welcome, the exceptional dedication of the volunteers, and the island’s stunning landscapes carried me through the entire course. Martinique offers much more than a competition; it offers a uniquely human and deeply immersive adventure.”
Through this initiative, the Martinique Tourism Authority reaffirms its commitment to promoting Martinique as a leading destination for sports tourism, nature, and wide-open-space adventure, and to celebrating the athletes who help elevate the island’s profile internationally.
