TMR Canada in Isla Mujeres: Discovering Almare, a Luxury Collection All-Inclusive by Marriott

TMR Canada in Isla Mujeres: Discovering Almare, a Luxury Collection All-Inclusive by Marriott

Almare

Almare, a Luxury Collection All-Inclusive by Marriott, opened its doors this past November on Isla Mujeres, a certified Pueblo Mágico island located just 20 minutes by boat from Cancun.

TMR Canada had the chance to visit this new adults-only resort just a few months after its opening. Here’s a quick look!

When you arrive at Cancun airport, a private transfer is ready to take you to the Puerto Cancun marina, where a boat brings you straight to Almare’s dock in about 20 minutes. Even though this might sound like “a lot,” it’s incredibly efficient—and less than an hour after landing, we were already there!

The arrival feels straight out of White Lotus, with the team greeting us at the dock with a welcome cocktail and a chilled towel. The service was truly the highlight of the stay—flawless, attentive, and genuinely warm.

The convenience of all-inclusive, the charm of a boutique hotel

What makes Almare so appealing is its boutique hotel feel—it only has 109 rooms and suites, all with balconies and ocean views—yet it offers the convenient all-inclusive formula. On an island like Isla Mujeres, where dining are lodging options are more limited, this is a real plus.

The hotel itself is understated, but has everything you need. One of our favorites? The coffee corner—every hotel should have one, if you ask me! Whether you want your coffee by the beach in the morning or a snack in the afternoon, it delivers with specialty coffees, juices, non-alcoholic drinks, pastries, sandwiches, and ice cream.

The lobby bar is very elegant and offers mezcal tastings and creative cocktails in the evening.

For dining, there’s a rooftop Italian restaurant serving pizza and pasta (with a stunning sunset view), a Mexican restaurant (our personal favorite) open all day, and the Pool Bar, offering simple lunch dishes. There’s also a beachfront food truck with healthy options like smoothies, sandwiches, and salads.

An intimate and peaceful resort

If you choose to stay on Isla Mujeres, chances are you’re looking for peace and quiet. Unlike Cancun, the island is calm, and everyone gets around by golf cart—a charming detail we really loved! The resort is just far enough from the “town center” to offer complete tranquility.

You can tour the island in about 30 minutes. Isla Mujeres is only 7 km long, so it’s easy to get around, and Almare is ideally located in the center, making it easy to catch both sunrise at Punta Sur (the island’s southern tip) and sunset at Playa Norte (as the name suggests, on the north end).

Isla Mujeres holds the title of Pueblo Mágico, a distinction granted by the Mexican government to towns that have preserved their traditional charm and character. It is therefore very pleasant to walk around the town center, which is very colourful and vibrant.

Almare fits right in with this setting—peaceful, authentic, and full of charm.

This is a place to unwind, embrace the “island life,” and disconnect for a few days—worlds away from Cancun’s energy, though it’s just next door.

What to do at Almare

The resort offers a state-of-the-art fitness center, beach yoga classes three times a week, a spa with a hydrotherapy circuit (complimentary for Marriott Bonvoy members), a solid menu of facial and massage treatments (we had a fantastic massage worth mentioning!), and a daily activities program, including coffee and mezcal tastings, mixology workshops, paddleboarding, kayaking, snorkeling, and more.

There’s a small rooftop pool perfect for taking in the view and sunsets, while the main pool overlooks the ocean. The beach area is spacious, with plenty of cabanas and loungers—and top-notch service at all times.

Considering the accommodation options on Isla Mujeres, Almare is a great choice if you’re looking for the convenience of all-inclusive with the atmosphere of a boutique hotel.
