Intrepid Travel has unveiled a new Mystery Expedition, which promises to take guests on a “once-in-a-lifetime” trip over 1,500 miles (2,400 kilometres)—all while embracing the unknown.

Intrepid’s Mystery Expedition is a 14-day tour that starts in Harare, Zimbabwe and ends in Ile de Mozambique. Apart from being set in Southern Africa, guests will not know the itinerary before the trip. Activities include guided tours with a local expert, adventure activities like swimming beneath waterfalls and mountain hikes, and immersive, community-based experiences.

The trip will have two departures: July 29, 2026, exclusively for past Intrepid travelers (with early booking access), and August 12, 2026 for the general public. Group sizes will be limited to 21 travelers, and will cost $4,640 ($6,410 CAD) per person. The physical rating is moderate, due to trekking and some rugged terrain.

“We run trips in over 120 countries and know our travelers always look to us to uncover new and exciting places to travel,” said Erica Kritikides, General Manager of Experiences at Intrepid Travel. “This itinerary is intrepid in every sense of the word, and I’m confident that this will be our best mystery trip yet.”

Intrepid is now accepting applications until June 29, 2025. Interested parties can fill out this Uncharted registration form. After the booking window closes, names will be selected via random draw.

This Mystery Expedition is the second-ever entry in Intrepid’s uncharted series. The previous Uncharted tour, which launched in 2018, took 34 travelers through the Altai region of Russia. That trip generated over 1,000 applications, and the first departure sold out within 16 hours.

“This mystery trip taps into the nostalgia of our earliest Intrepid trips, where every journey held an element of surprise and the unknown,” said Kritikides. “It appeals to the most intrepid travellers—those with a sense of adventure who are prepared to take a leap of faith and go well beyond the beaten path.”
