Early Morning WestJet System Outage is Resolved: No Word on Cause

A system outage that affected WestJet earlier this morning has apparently been resolved.

The Globe and Mail reported that WestJet’s ground stop at all destination airports has been cancelled, according to a notice on the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration’s website.

The airline had requested a brief ground stop for flights operating under the WestJet livery and its regional subsidiary WestJet Encore.

A ground stop temporarily halts flights from departing for a specific airport or region, usually due to safety, weather or operational issues.

Earlier this morning, airport accounts on social media were reporting that WestJet was experiencing technical issues at airports across Canada with some users reporting issues internationally.

In a post made by WestJet’s official X account at approximately 10:20am ET Tuesday morning in response to a user comment, the airline said “There was a system outage that led to flights being grounded, but you should be on your way very soon. Thanks for your understanding, and we hope your flight is excellent.”

Earlier this morning, airports including Toronto Pearson and Ottawa International had posted about the issues, warning travellers to expect potential flight impacts.

There has been no official statement from WestJet yet as to what caused the system outage or the extent of delays and cancellations.

More to come.
