Explore Worldwide’s ‘Tariff Timeout’ Drives Record Canadian Bookings

Explore Worldwide’s active and walking tours are popular with Canadians.
Explore Worldwide says its “Tariff Timeout” promotion drove a record-breaking response in July from the Canadian market with bookings tripling year-over-year (up 209%).
The three-month campaign, which ran from May through July and offered up to 20% off more than 300 small group tours, solidified Canada as one of the fastest-growing markets for the B Corp-certified small group tour operator.
Explore says that more than half of the bookings made during the campaign period were for departures within the next three months, leaning into sustained demand for last-minute travel and a growing appetite for deep-dive cultural experiences.

“Canadians are clearly responding to the added value, flexibility, and off-the-beaten-path style of travel that Explore offers,” says Katy Rockett, regional director of North America. “This boost in bookings made it clear that Canadian travellers are looking for that balance between discovery and adventure, and they are ready to do it now.”
The recent booking rush also uncovered key trends among Canadian travellers. Portugal emerged as the clear destination front-runner with broader demand for active travel and walking-focused itineraries like Remote Coastal Trails and Walking in Madeira garnering strong interest.
Destinations including France, Italy, and Spain followed closely behind, tied as the next most-booked destinations. Cycling and walking tours, from the Loire Valley to the Amalfi Coast, highlighted a preference for slower-paced, scenic travel.
Signalling that more Canadians are seeking new adventures beyond Western Europe this year, Explore’s cultural discovery tours also saw a 152% year-over-year increase, with Canadian travellers seeking travel experiences in destinations like Armenia, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka.
