AmaWaterways Pushes Back Launch of Magdalena River Cruising (Again)

AmaWaterways Reveals Details of Colombia's Magdalena River Cruises

For the second time since it first announced it will sail two river ships on the Magdalena River in Colombia, AmaWaterways has postponed the launch date of the new itinerary.

“This is the first time a major river cruise line is offering a journey of this nature on the Magdalena River,” said Rudi Schreiner, co-founder and president of AmaWaterways. “We’ve encountered challenges that are simply part of being pioneers. Opening a new river to the world is not easy, but it’s exactly these kinds of bold steps that allow us to offer our guests new experiences.”

Originally slated to begin operations in March of this year, the launch of AmaMagdalena had been pushed back to Jan. 2025. With the new delay, the first sailing is now scheduled for March 15, 2025.

According to AmaWaterways, this will allow the company “to finalize the essential infrastructure for this new river cruise destination.”

AmaMelodia is still on schedule for a June 2025 launch.

Guests affected by the delay are being offered alternative arrangements, including the option to rebook for another destination or postpone their trip to later in 2025.

AmaWaterways will be the first river cruise company to offer sailings on the river, with two ships sailing seven-night itineraries.
