Carnival Cruise Alters Three Itineraries Because Of Tropical Storms

Carnival Cruise Line has been forced to change the itineraries of three of its ships due to impending tropical storms in the Gulf of Mexico.

Carnival Valor, Triumph and Vista, the line’s newest ship, all will sail altered itineraries this week because of Tropical Storm Bret and Tropical Storm Cindy.

Valor is set to skip a stop in Cozumel on its current five-day Mexican sailing out of Galveston, and will instead stop at Progreso in the Mexican state of Yucatán.

Triumph also will skip Cozumel and head to Progreso on Wednesday as part of its five-day Mexico sailing out of New Orleans because of the storms.

And Vista, which was sailing an eight-day southern Caribbean itinerary out of Miami, will not stop at Curacao today and instead will spend a day at sea.

All ships are expected to return to their homeports on schedule, though Carnival is still monitoring the situation.

Other cruise lines sailing in the area, including Royal Caribbean International and Norwegian Cruise Line, have not made any changes to their itineraries as of yet.

At the moment, meteorologists expect the storms to cause heavy rain in the southeastern United States and stormy conditions in the Gulf of Mexico.

Tropical Storm Bret, which lost steam on Tuesday, is currently moving northwest from South America while Cindy is hovering near Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico. Cindy was stationary on Tuesday, but is expected to move onto the U.S. mainland and bring three to six inches of rain with it.

This is the first year since 1968 that there have been two simultaneous named tropical storms before July.
