G Adventures Is Launching a New Expedition Ship

Adventure tour operator G Adventures is adding a new expedition cruise vessel to its portfolio.

The ship, called Ocean Adventurer, will replace G Adventures’ current ship, Expedition, for the upcoming Antarctica season. It has been chartered through Danish maritime company SunStone.

The ship will sail with 128 guests when it kicks off its inaugural season in October 2025.

“The Expedition has operated over 270 departures, taking over 30,000 travelers to some of the most remote regions of the world, and holds a very dear place in our hearts at G Adventures. And, while we all wanted to continue to operate our little red ship, it became apparent that doing so would not be good for the environment or the business,” G Adventures founder Bruce Poon Tip said.

“As a company, we are always looking for ways to evolve, improve and lead from the front, so when the opportunity for this new ship presented itself, we knew we had to take it.”

The 102-meter-long ship will feature 70 cabins, a restaurant, a bar, a presentation lounge, a library, a fitness area, and an observation and sun deck with outdoor jacuzzis. It will also carry 11 Zodiacs, supporting two daily excursions.

G Adventures says Ocean Adventurer will be more fuel efficient than Expedition, helping reduce the company’s environmental footprint. In total, the switch is expected to lower the overall carbon footprint by 30% per person per day.

The ship is being built to Ice Class 1A standards for enhanced safety and maneuverability, which G says will also help cut down on motion sickness during rough crossings.

The upcoming Ocean Adventurer season will feature five itineraries, including the 11-day Antarctica Classic, the 21-day Spirit of Shackleton, and the 22-day Falklands, South Georgia, and Antarctica.
