G Adventures Releases 2026 Travel List Based on Consumer Research

G Adventures has released its annual travel list, now with a twist.

New this year, the small group tour operator conducted global research to get to the “heart” of where—and why—travelers travel. Titled “Travel your heart out: Happiness List 2026,” the list is based on research conducted by Opinion Matters, among a sample of 8,000 respondents across the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

The study revealed that travel is a major driver of long-term happiness: 89% of American respondents agreed that travel contributes to their overall well-being, and 76% report feeling happier in everyday life when they have a trip booked.

Based on the research, consumer behavior is driven by what travelers do and how those experiences make them feel. Seventy-three percent of American respondents said they choose trips based on experiences over destinations, and 79% of travellers surveyed said travel makes them more understanding and empathetic of other cultures.

Going local continues to be a trend: 71% of U.S. respondents said they prefer trips that allow them to live like a local, and 85% of overall participants said they value staying and eating in locally owned places.

Instead of focusing purely on destinations, this year’s list highlights the experiences and emotions that bring travelers joy, purpose, and connection.

G Adventures’ 10 “Happiness List” Trips for 2026

Beach Time in Panama
Beach escapes topped the global happiness chart, and this new 18-to-Thirtysomethings trip blends city energy with island calm. Travelers begin in vibrant Panama City before heading to the San Blas Islands, where Indigenous-owned accommodations offer a rare chance to unplug and embrace life’s simple pleasures among turquoise waters and traditional huts.

Exploring New Cities in the Stans
Adventure meets cultural discovery on this 23-day journey through Central Asia. Travelers explore the ancient Silk Road cities of Khiva, Samarkand, and Bukhara, and marvel at natural wonders like Kaindy Lake and Charyn Canyon, connecting deeply with both history and humanity.

On the Ocean in the Arctic
Remote landscapes and time on the water combine for ultimate contentment aboard the G Expedition. The Arctic itineraries offer close encounters with icebergs, glaciers, and wildlife, all while inviting travelers to disconnect and rediscover a sense of wonder.

Experiencing New Foods and Wines in Moldova
This seven-day journey celebrates culture through cuisine, featuring underground wine tastings, cooking with locals, and visits to an eco-friendly cheese factory housed in a converted school.

Slow Down and Live Like a Local
G Adventures’ new Local Living trips in France, Morocco, and Iceland invite travelers to settle into community life. From staying in family-run guesthouses to sharing meals and experiences with locals, these trips emphasize meaningful human connection over sightseeing.

A Sense of Wonder: The ‘Eclipse of the Century’ in Egypt and Morocco
In August 2027, travelers can witness a total solar eclipse during exclusive itineraries in Egypt and Morocco, combining ancient wonders with celestial magic in once-in-a-lifetime viewing experiences.

Connecting with Family in Ecuador
This National Geographic Family Journey offers rainforest hikes, chocolate tastings, and immersive cultural experiences, helping families strengthen bonds through shared discovery and adventure.

Supporting Wildlife in Tanzania
Part of the Jane Goodall Collection, this trip follows in Dr. Goodall’s footsteps through Ngorongoro Crater and Gombe Stream National Park, combining ethical wildlife encounters with meaningful conservation learning.

De-Stress and Relax with Sri Lanka Sailing
Travelers unwind aboard a 54-foot catamaran along Sri Lanka’s south coast, exploring fishing villages and historic sites while enjoying swimming, surfing, and sunset sailing under the stars.

Feel Alive and Energized in Guatemala
Designed for solo travelers, this adventure blends cultural exploration with connection—think cooking traditional dishes, exploring Tikal’s ruins, and visiting Indigenous markets, with time for both group bonding and personal reflection.
