Disney Drops More Details of the Upcoming Disney Destiny
by Daniel McCarthy /Disney Destiny, the sister ship to the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, will debut in 2025 with a lot of brand new features for Disney Cruise Line.
The first, and maybe most notable thing that Disney unveiled this week, is a new dining experience inspired by “The Lion King,” and set in a Savana-themed restaurant, called “Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King.”
Just like the Arendelle on Disney Wish, Pride Lands will welcome guests for a meal accompanied by live musicians and storytellers, with some of the film’s staple songs, including “Hakuna Matata,” performed while guests eat from a themed menu.
The next is another venue inspired by a Disney classic—a sweet shop called Edna Á La Mode Sweets, inspired by Edna Mode, the fashion designer from “The Incredibles,” and the short film Auntie Edna. The shop will offer handmade gelato, ice cream, cookies, and candy.
Then, there’s De Vil’s, a piano lounge that’s named after the villain of “One Hundred and One Dalmatians,” which will offer a menu of “trendy martinis, chic cocktails, and glamorous wines and bubbles.”
Destiny is also getting the Haunted Mansion bar that will debut on Disney Treasure later this year.
Disney also dropped details of two other venues, a couple of casual walk-up cafes just off of the ship’s Grand Hall. Both will offer specialty beverages and snacks and both are themed, just like so much on Disney ships, with icons of classic Disney films.
One is called Café Megara, named after the heroine of “Hercules” and themed with a “Greco disco” design with clouds of Mount Olympus and nods to the Muses and Pegasus.
The other is called Café Merida, inspired by the heroine from Pixar’s “Brave,” which will take guests to the Scottish Highlands, with a tapestry hunger from a mountain bow and glowing lights above the bar paying tribute to the will-o’-the-wisps.
Stateroom teases
Disney also teased some of the details of Destiny’s staterooms, announcing that most will feature the line’s signature split-bath concept, and many will also offer a connecting door for families or groups looking for larger, connected spaces.
The ship will also offer a class of concierge staterooms and suites, which will include access to a concierge lounge and private sun deck. Most will be themed with the classic “Fantasia” film, except for seven of those cabins, located directly above the bridge, which will instead be “Incredibles” themed (Disney is nicknaming them IncrediSuites).
Other news and more details
Disney is targeting “late 2025” for Destiny’s debut and plans to launch the ship from Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale. At 144,000 gross tons, it will be the same size as sister ships Wish and Treasure.
When the ship was announced, Disney confirmed that Destiny would get an Aquamouse, a waterslide that Disney debuted on Wish and called “the first-ever” Disney attraction at sea. This week, it gave a little larger glimpse into the attraction, announcing that one of four storylines on the attraction will be called “Sing a Silly Song,” where “Mickey and Minnie will lead guests on a seemingly ominous trek to the peak of Villain Mountain. When faced with some of the most fearsome villains of Disney Animation lore.”
