The Bahamas and MSC Cruises have unveiled plans for a $450 million cruise terminal in Freeport Harbor on Grand Bahama Island.
As reported by Caribbean Journal, the terminal will “significantly expand” the island’s cruise capacity. Capacity currently sits at no more than two ship visits at a time.
MSC Cruises confirmed the news, telling TMR it entered into a “strategic agreement” with The Bahamas in January to develop the harbor.
The facility, which will be built on an existing man-made island will feature multiple ship berths, allowing the island to accommodate more vessels at one time. Plans also include food and entertainment areas for cruise passengers, as well as a transportation hub to streamline shore excursion departures and independent travel across the island.
