Norwegian Hikes Prices for Beverage and Dining Packages

by Daniel McCarthy  March 01, 2016

Norwegian Cruise Line is raising the price of its beverage and specialty dining prices, starting on some of its ships this week, it said in an email to travel agents.

The cost of the Ultimate Beverage Package will rise from $69 to $79 per person per day. That will bring the total cost of an Ultimate Beverage Package (all drinks under $15 included) for two people in the same cabin to more than $1,100 for a seven-night cruise, plus an 18% gratuity charge and service fee.

The price of Norwegian’s other packages also is being raised. The Corks & Caps beverage program (soft drinks, beer, and wine) increased from $54 to $59 per person per day, and the three-meal specialty dining package rose slightly, from $69 to $70 per person.

The price increases will take effect on the Norwegian Gem on March 2, the Norwegian Pearl on March 3, and the Norwegian Epic on March 6. The dining package price increase on the Pride of America, which does not offer beverage packages, will take effect on March 15.

While Norwegian made news last year when it announced some all-inclusive options for its cruises, guests without the all-inclusive option will now be paying 14% more for the Ultimate Beverage Package and 10% more for the Corks & Caps program.

The cost of the soda packages for adults ($7.50) and children ($5) remains the same.

Meanwhile, as Norwegian ups the cost, last week Carnival raised the value of its drink package.

Starting March 1, Carnival’s Cheers! beverage package will include higher-priced liquor, mixed drinks, beer, wine, and spirits in the package while keeping the price the same.

The package, which costs $49.95 per day purchased in advanced or $54.95 when purchased on onboard, will now include Patron tequila, Hennessy cognac, and Grey Goose vodka, as well as non-alcoholic premium beverages like PowerAde, Vitamin Water, Coconut Water, and Honest Tea.
