As part of the cruise line’s continuing $400 million Norwegian Edge program, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) today announced that Norwegian Spirit will be next up in the fleetwide renovations, as it will undergo a $100 million overhaul in January.

The ship will drydock in Marseille France starting on Jan. 2, 2020 for a 40-day revitalization that will upgrade the vessel with a number of new features, including brand-new contemporary hull art.

Spirit will get new dining venues, including the main dining room called Taste, the 24-hour Local Bar and Grill, Garden Café, the Grout Outdoors Bar, and the Wave Pool bar.

Spirit will also be getting its first Scarpetta restaurant, a portfolio of restaurants that will debut in the Norwegian fleet on Encore later this fall. Spirit’s edition, called Onda by Scarpetta, will offer modern Italian fare, including seafood.

Elsewhere, the ship will get NCL’s signature children’s waterpark Splash Academy, the Bliss Ultra Lounge, the Spinnaker Lounge that includes the Humidor Cigar Lounge, the adults-only Spice H20 retreat, additional staterooms, and more.

“We are excited to reinvigorate Norwegian Spirit so that she continues to provide lasting memories for guests as they sail to some of the most exotic destinations around the world,” NCL president and CEO Andy Stuart said in a statement announcing the renovation.

When drydock is completed, Spirit will sail two 20-day itineraries exploring Greece, Israel, Egypt and Abu Dhabi from Rome (Civitavecchia); and Seychelles, Madagascar and South Africa from Dubai. A series of destination-rich voyages will then be offered to Southeast Asia, China, and Japan from Singapore; Hong Kong, China; and Tokyo and Yokohama, Japan, through the rest of 2020.
