Terra Nova Expeditions has announced the appointment of Edmonton-based Ross Avenell to Head of Global Sales, effective immediately.
Avenell joins from Aurora Expeditions, where he held various roles in business development, sales, and customer service over the last seven years. Most recently, he served as sales and customer service director, North America (2024 to 2026).
“I am very excited to join the team at Terra Nova Expeditions,” Avenell told Travel Market Report. “This is an incredible product that returns small-ship expedition travel to its roots, driven by a genuine spirit of adventure. I look forward to continuing to build and strengthen our trade partner relationships, increasing brand awareness, and contributing to the company’s ongoing commercial success.”
In his new role, Avenell will work to strengthen the expedition cruise company’s relationships within the travel trade and contribute to its overall growth.
“Ross brings a deep understanding of the expedition cruise market and strong relationships across the industry,” said Greg Carter, founder and CEO of Terra Nova Expeditions. “His experience and leadership will be invaluable as we continue building our global sales network.”
Beth Mercier, who served as chief commercial officer, is exiting the company after completing a one-year contract.
“Beth has been a fantastic contributor during an important phase of Terra Nova’s development,” said Carter. “She helped lay the foundations for our commercial strategy and partnerships, and we are grateful for her dedication and energy. We wish her every success in her next chapter.”
In a LinkedIn post, Mercier expressed gratitude to Terra Nova for the opportunity.
“As I wrap up the final days of my contract with Terra Nova Expeditions, I want to extend a sincere thank you to Greg Carter and the entire team at Terra Nova,” wrote Mercier. “I wish Ross Avenell, MBA great success in his new role as I pass the baton. His insight into the polar industry and strong partner relationships will help to grow this great company.”
