Gleneagles Hotel To Undergo Multi-Million Dollar Revamp

by James Shillinglaw  June 05, 2016

Gleneagles is now set for a major renovation under its new owner.

The Gleneagles Hotel, the famed golfing property in Perthshire, Scotland, that first opened in 1924, is set for a multi-million renovation under new owner Ennismore. The revamp will focus on restoring the heritage, architecture, and setting for the historic hotel.

The first phase, completed last month, includes a new bar in the Dormy Clubhouse conceived by British design house Macaulay Sinclair. It features a selection of locally sourced beers, including craft beers made at nearby De Brus Brewery in Dunfermline and Fallen Brewing Company in Stirling.

The renovation also includes a redesign of 30 bedrooms, the hotel’s main bar, and corridors and public areas throughout the property, to create relaxing and welcoming spaces for guests to socialize and enjoy views of the 850-acres of surrounding Perthshire countryside. Collectively, the designs will pay homage to the hotel’s history and reflect Gleneagles’ distinctly Scottish identity.

Interior designers Goddard Littlefair will redecorate the 30 bedrooms with detailing, fabrics, and colors to create a warm country-estate feel. The hotel’s main bar is being renovated by design house David Collins Studio. The updated space will offer extensive drinks list and a local Scottish influence in its culinary offerings, including food that reflects hunting, shooting, and fishing, all activities that can be enjoyed at the property.

Gleneagles executives said their top priority will continue to be providing an outstanding experience for guests, to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum. The hotel will remain open throughout the refurbishment.

Ennismore, which purchased Gleneagles in 2015 from spirits giant Diageo, is a London-based owner and developer of high-end hospitality properties around the world. Founded in 2011 by Sharan Pasricha, the company has two Hoxton hotels in London in Shoreditch and Holborn, and another in Amsterdam. It also is developing Hoxton properties in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and in Paris.
