IHG To Build New Crowne Plaza Hotel in Mexico City
by Briana Bonfiglio /IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced that it will build a new Crowne Plaza hotel in Mexico City.
The world-leading hospitality company will develop Crowne Plaza Mexico City Insurgentes on Mexico City’s famous Avenida de los Insurgentes. The 230-room hotel is scheduled to break down in early 2024 and open sometime in 2026.
“Today’s travelers expect the flexibility to easily transition their stay between business and leisure. We’ve elevated the Crowne Plaza design to provide the space and services for guests and locals seeking a modern environment to engage and recharge,” said Paul Adan, IHG Hotels & Resorts’ regional SVP for development in Latin America and the Caribbean. “Our new location along the highly visible and well-traveled Avenida de los Insurgentes is a perfect fit for Crowne Plaza, and we look forward to reintroducing this premium brand to Mexico City.”
In keeping with Crowne Plaza’s theme of blending work and leisure, the new property will feature the brand’s signature Plaza Workspace, an array of adaptive meeting rooms and private soundproof booths in the hotel’s public area, which is available to both guests and the public. The new hotel will also have a scenic rooftop bar and a restaurant.
Crowne Plaza Mexico City Insurgentes’ location on the longest avenue in Mexico City places it near many professional buildings and offices for business travelers and near popular tourist attractions for leisure travelers such as Azul Football Stadium, Theater of the Insurgents, and World Trade Center Mexico City lifestyle complex and cultural center.
IHG’s partners in developing the new hotel are owner Fideicomiso 1870/2014 and designer Interaq.
“Mexico City remains a popular destination for travelers of all kinds,” said Felix Jafif, president of Fideicomiso 1870/2014. “With the modern shift to more blended travel, we’re confident that Crowne Plaza’s flexible design and proven reputation will make this hotel a welcome addition to our city. We look forward to working with IHG Hotels & Resorts on a successful build and opening.”
There are seven other Crowne Plaza hotels in Mexico, including in Monterrey (Nuevo Leon and Airport) and one each in Leon, Torreon, Villahermosa, Metepec, and Tlalnepantla.
