Puerto Rico’s iconic Caribe Hilton in San Juan welcomed back guests last week for the first time in over a year.

The 652-key hotel was closed for 15 months after it was heavily damaged during Hurricane Maria, and received a $150 million-plus restoration by Park Hotels & Resorts, Inc.

“The reopening of Caribe Hilton is one more symbol that Puerto Rico is back in business,” said Pablo Torres, Caribe Hilton’s general manager.

The reopening coincides with the Caribe Hilton’s 70th anniversary, as the hotel originally made its debut on the island in 1949. To celebrate, a grand opening is scheduled to take place on June 18, 2019, highlighting 70 years of hospitality in Puerto Rico.

The 17-acre beachfront resort’s top-to-bottom makeover included guest room and suite renovations; the 11 food and beverage outlets were reimagined; and now the property includes a swim-up bar and landscaping redesigns.

The historic hotel underwent a $150 million renovation.

The fitness and spa building was completely rebuilt and transformed, featuring oceanfront views with floor-to-ceiling glass windows, all-new fitness equipment, and a state-of-the-art spa.

The open-air lobby was redesigned to highlight the expansive ocean views, while the color scheme has been tailored to reflect the vibrancy of the island.

The 65,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space were also upgraded, including new audio-visual equipment, as well as activated indoor/outdoor spaces and breakout areas.

Upgrades were also made to all building systems and building envelopes to better fortify the exterior against future storms.

To celebrate the opening, for a limited time, guests can extend their stay an additional night with “One Night on Us” — and get a complimentary third night free. Bookings must be made by June 30 for travel between May 15 and Dec. 20, 2019.
