Hotel Rooms in the Pipeline Grow in December

The number of hotels room under contract (469,139 rooms) in the United States jumped by 13.6% in December year-over-year, according to the 2015 STR Pipeline Report.   

The economy segment saw the largest increase, jumping 70% to 6,801 rooms. Next came the upper midscale segment, increasing 23.9% to 157,034 rooms, followed by the upper scale segment, rising 23.4% to 38,885 rooms.

Numbers are up almost across the board, but 69% of the total construction in the United States is in the upscale and upper-midscale segments.
