Small group tour operator Intrepid Travel has launched 32 new trips across 15 European countries, with a focus on highlighting lesser-known cities, alternative destinations, and experiences designed to combat overtourism.
The new European tours represent one of the company’s largest expansions in one single region to date. The launch introduces three new destinations for the operator: Madeira, the Canary Islands, and the Faroe Islands.
“Travellers have long loved Europe, but overtourism and climate change are reshaping where and how people choose to explore,” said Erica Kritikides, general manager of experiences at Intrepid Travel. “Iconic sights remain popular, yet more are seeking hidden gems, deeper cultural connections and, at times, cooler conditions.”
Trips range from five to 22 days and include active, family, and premium options. Highlights include a five-day exploration of the Faroe Islands with coastal hikes and a home-cooked farm lunch, a six-day premium walking trip in Madeira, and a nine-day rail journey through northern Sweden and Norway (first introduced when Intrepid expanded its rail collection in July).
“As is true of all our trips, Intrepid is committed to creating responsible European travel experiences, in partnership with our locally based teams, that not only inspire travellers, but also support communities and protect these remarkable places for the future,” added Kritikides.
Following the expansion, Intrepid now operates in 35 European countries and has five destination management offices across the region. A new office in Denmark opened earlier this year to oversee Northern Europe operations, and another is planned in Italy for 2026.
