Marriott Says Boston Hotels Unaffected by Workers Strike

More than 1,000 workers at Marriott Hotels across Boston walked out Wednesday during the first hotel strike in the city’s history.
The employees — which included cooks, bartenders, doormen, and housekeepers — are calling for a wage increase that would allow them to be able to keep up with the cost of living in Boston.

Marriott is one of the city’s largest employers, with a number of hotels operating within the city, including Westin Copley, Ritz-Carlton, and W properties.

All hotels are still open during the strike, and Marriott has said in a statement that its hotels have not been significantly impacted by the move.

“During the strike, our hotels are open, and we stand ready to provide excellent service to our guests” a spokesperson from Marriott said. “Marriott’s current economic proposal matches the economic terms in the parties’ last contract, which included the largest increases in the parties’ bargaining history.” 

According to the Boston Herald on Thursday, Marriott’s Boston hotels, including Westin Boston Waterfront, appear to be operating normally, though the hotel’s lobby Starbucks and restaurant was closed.
