No Room At The Inn In Hamburg For President Trump

Sometimes even the President of the United States needs a good travel agent.

Pres. Donald Trump was left scurrying for accommodations for the G-20 Summit meeting this week, as top hotels around Hamburg, Germany, filled with important figures from around the world.

Buzzfeed yesterday quoted a Hamburger Abendblatt report that White House officials waited too long to book accommodations for Pres. Trump, as 9,000 hotel rooms were quickly filled by world leaders, their staffs and their security details.

All kidding aside though, it was hardly Pres. Trump’s fault; the summit was announced before he even was elected, so he could hardly have known he would be attending.

Still, Buzzfeed reported that all 156 guest rooms and suites at Pres. Trump’s first choice, the Four Seasons, along with a number of rooms in the Hotel Renaissance and The Westin in the Elbphilharmonie, were booked up by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman. And perhaps that was for the best. King Salman always travels with a golden escalator and camels to provide him with fresh camel milk, Buzzfeed reported.

Buzzfeed also noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin and the prime ministers of South Korea and Australia are staying at the Park Hyatt; Le Meridien is hosting U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May and two other delegations; Chinese President Xi Jinping and Italy’s prime minister are at the Grand Elysée; and Angela Merkel is joining the Indian and Canadian prime ministers at the Atlantic Kempinski.

So what do you do when you have an important business meeting and no hotel room? Apparently Pres. Trump will be staying with friends; the German government will put him up at the German Senate guest house, while his staff stays at the U.S. Consulate General.
