Smithsonian Journeys has launched DISCOVER Getaways, a new collection of weeklong, small group guided land journeys in Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas.

Smithsonian Journeys is a tour operator run by the Smithsonian Institute. The company offers curated small group experiences, with options for guided land tours, river cruises, private jet journeys, active travel, and even bespoke FIT trips.

The new DISCOVER Getaways is a collection of 11 all-inclusive itineraries that are one week long, with the added convenience of weekend departures. Each group has a maximum of 24 travelers, and the package price includes airfare.

The small group tours are available to book now for 2027 departures.

“Many of our guests … tell us that the demands of work and family can make it challenging to find time for a truly meaningful escape,” said Walter Littlejohn III, senior vice president of Smithsonian Journeys. “In response, we distilled the very best of our guided land journeys into thoughtfully crafted, weeklong itineraries that deliver exceptional value, seamless planning and an extraordinary level of enrichment.”

Each DISCOVER Getaway trip includes a Smithsonian Journeys expert, who brings specialized insight about the destination; these might be distinguished scholars, scientists, or cultural specialists. The trip price also includes all international and internal airfare (if applicable), most meals, accommodations, curated excursions, medical and dental coverage, emergency protection coverage, and even pre-tour educational materials.

The new itineraries include:

  • Discover Japan: Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto
  • Discover the Galápagos: Historic Quito to Santa Cruz Island
  • Discover Malta: Historic Treasures and Local Life
  • Discover Turkey: Istanbul, Cappadocia, and Antalya
  • Discover Morocco: Enchanting Medinas and Ancient Capitals
  • Discover Italy: Tuscany and Umbria
  • Discover Jordan: Petra, Jerash, and the Dead Sea
  • Discover Normandy and the Loire Valley: France Past and Present
  • Discover Switzerland: Across the Bernese Alps
  • Discover Alaska: Fairbanks Under the Northern Lights

“With nearly every detail included, even airfare, these journeys feel effortless yet deeply rewarding. They invite travelers to step away from the everyday, even if just for a week, and immerse themselves in the richness, access and perspective that only Smithsonian Journeys can provide,” said Littlejohn III.
