The American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) has announced its opened enrollment for its new member health insurance plan. The plan is available to ASTA members in 38 states through an “association health plan” (AHP), including independent contractors.
The plan will include “coverage at favorable rates” for individuals and small business owners, and their families, in every state except Maine, California, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii, due to state law restrictions.
“Additional states could be added to the program at a later date if existing legal restrictions affecting those states are resolved,” said ASTA in a statement.
ASTA originally announced its intention to launch the new health plan back in October, because of the high volume of members requesting the service.
“Creation of a plan of this kind has been a frequent request of ASTA members over the past several years, as it could allow individuals and small business owners to obtain coverage at group rates that are much more favorable than if purchased individually,” the association said.
In addition to health insurance, ASTA members can also purchase other types of insurance coverage through the plan, such as dental, vision, disability, life, accident, long-term care, and Medicare supplements. The organization says that its beta testers have reported insurance premium savings of up to 40%.
