As part of its ongoing commitment to grow its North American presence by strengthening its trade ties, HX Expeditions is adding several business development managers to its sales team. The company also made several marketing hires.

The hires come amid an aggressive growth strategy that includes stronger trade partnerships, global fleet improvements, and a revitalized brand identity.

“Alongside these global investments, we’re also investing in the people who will help us deliver on our most ambitious goals,” said Steve Smotrys, managing director and senior vice president, commercial, the Americas. “This expanded team brings the energy and expertise needed to strengthen our trade relationships and accelerate growth across the region.”

According to the company, HX’s presence in the Americas has grown rapidly, with total U.S. booked revenue up 115% between 2022 and 2024.

“As we prepare to celebrate 130 years of exploration, we’re building a modern brand with deep roots,” said Matt DeWitte, head of marketing, the Americas. “This next phase is about scaling smart – creating more value for our partners and ensuring our brand connects in meaningful, inspiring ways across the Americas.”

Under the leadership of Smotrys and Carla Brake, senior director of sales for the Americas, the line has hired BDMs to cover several key markets.

“Our business development managers play a pivotal role in delivering the support and partnership that travel advisors need to succeed,” said Smotrys. “With this expanded team on the ground, we’re ensuring our trade partners have the tools they need to grow alongside us.”

Joining the company as BDM for the Northwest U.S. is John Milbrath, who brings more than 30 years of experience to the role. He most recently worked in business development at Seabourn but also spent time at AAA Washington. Advisors in the region can reach him at john.milbrath@travelhx.com.

Linda Cavanah, who joined HX Expeditions in 2023 as a senior product manager, moves into the role of business development manager for the Central U.S. She brings more than 20 years of cruise industry experience, including shipboard roles at Celebrity Cruises and Holland America. She also served as director of land operations at UnCruise Adventures. Advisors can reach her at linda.cavanah@travelhx.com.

For the role of BDM, Midwest & Mid-Atlantic U.S., HX has hired Barrett Caldwell. He brings seven years of experience in luxury travel sales, spanning safaris, major sporting events, and destination marketing. He can be reached at barret.caldwell@travelhx.com.

For the Northeast U.S., HX has appointed Aidan Flood who brings a strong background in account management across multiple industries. Advisors can reach him at aidan.flood@travelhx.com.

HX also appointed a BDM for LATAM and for its tour operator partners. Ana Duarte has more than 20 years of experience in the cruise industry, having most recently worked for Princess Cruises on deployment and itinerary planning and international marketing strategies. She will lead HX’s efforts to grow the brand across Latin America, strengthen partnerships with tour operators, and develop charter programs. She can be reached at Ana.Duarte@travelhx.com.

HX also appointed several new marketing executives, including Cristina Macedo, whose focus will be on B2B trade marketing. At HX, she will support the larger marketing team with content development, performance analysis, and brand consistency across global platforms.
