Grand Hotel Central in Barcelona to Reopen This Spring
by Briana Bonfiglio /After about four months of renovations, Barcelona’s Grand Hotel Central will reopen under new ownership and management on March 15.
New owners took over the hotel shortly before it closed for renovations at the end of October 2023. Grand Hotel Central is now set to reopen with a fresh look and new restaurants for guests to enjoy.
“The objective of the rebranding and design of the hotel is to connect with the spirit of the building’s past and present, and in particular with the philosophy of its creator, Francesc Cambó, who was visionary, hedonistic and cosmopolitan, yet simultaneously local,” Maria Contreras, general manager, told TMR. “We want to attract a clientele who shares these values, and will draw on the local talent of artists, artisans, perfumers, designers and producers to ensure our guests are fast tracked to the essence of the city, experiencing Barcelona like an authentic resident.”
Grand Hotel Central has undergone a makeover of sorts – the interior now boasts natural materials in its furniture and earthy, muted colors in its design, giving the hotel a modern, residential feel.
The hotel’s restaurants have also been reimagined; there’s a new Mediterranean-style restaurant, Terraza del Central, on the eighth floor offering views of the Barcelona skyline. By June, a new streetside restaurant, Can Bo, will open and serve a rotating tapas menu.
In addition, the hotel’s 147 rooms and suites, wellness center, and rooftop infinity pool and terrace have all been refurbished. The hotel also has a library paying tribute to its founder.
