Caption by Hyatt, a lifestyle brand in Hyatt’s Independent Collection, has just opened hotels in two major cities: Sydney, Australia and Tokyo, Japan.
Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney and Caption by Hyatt Kabutocho Tokyo join a growing portfolio that also includes properties in Nashville, Shanghai, and Osaka. Focused heavily on local culture since the brand launched in 2022, the hotels’ design, events, and other programming all reflect the surrounding community.
The brand’s signature Talk Shop, a restaurant, bar, and social space, is at the heart of each Caption by Hyatt hotel and serves as a means “to connect people with each other and with the neighborhood,” said Masa Yamada, general manager of the new Caption by Hyatt Kabutocho Tokyo. “[It’s] where traditions and new ideas meet, and where locals and travelers can truly feel at home.”

Caption by Hyatt Kabutocho Tokyo is the brand’s second hotel in Japan and places 195 hotel room guests just steps from the Kayabacho and Nihonbashi subway stations. The hotel features Standard, High Floor, and Deluxe rooms with vibrant color schemes and design techniques that incorporate local culture and history.
The hotel’s Talk Shop restaurant follows a “Burgers & Greens” concept serving up signature craft burgers alongside fresh salads, desserts and drinks. It also includes a grab-and-go market. Programming in the social space ranges from traditional chiyogami (traditional Japanese decorative paper) notebook-making workshop to a regular Jazz Night featuring emerging local artists.

Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney marks the brand’s debut in Australia and the Pacific and brings 174 hotel rooms to the city’s Haymarket neighborhood. It is located steps from key railroad stations and major landmarks, including The Capitol Theatre and Sydney’s Chinatown.
The hotel offers a range of Standard, Premium, and Deluxe room categories with both city skyline and neighborhood views. The Talk Shop features local, curated programming such as poetry nights, live music, and Mahjong sessions, and the dining offerings, led by Chef Yammi Cheung, draw inspiration from the area’s rich multicultural food scene.
“Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney will introduce a fresh approach to travel,” said Temara Exton, the hotel’s general manager. “It is all about being a place where our guests are empowered to create their own experiences, and can connect, explore, and stay on their own terms.”
