American Queen Voyages Names David Giersdorf Acting President
by Daniel McCarthy /American Queen Voyages (AQV) has named travel and cruise industry president David Giersdorg as its new acting president.
Giersdorf has been with AQV for three years, serving as an advisor to the company, and brings with him more than 40 years of experience in the industry, including time as EVP with Holland America, time as a board member with Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), and a year as president and CEO of Paul Gauguin Cruises.
In a statement, Giersdorf said his experience serving as an advisor has laid a good foundation for the work ahead.
“This is an exhilarating time for the division, and I look forward to being part of a dedicated team building upon this company’s rich heritage. I was able to play an integral role in the design and development of the newly launched Alaska offerings with Ocean Victory, which recently embarked on its inaugural sailing with major success. I am energized to be leading the team during this new growth period for American Queen Voyages as the company continues to deliver amazing experiences for its guests,” he said.
In his new role, Giersdorf will be responsible for “developing and implementing American Queen Voyage’s overall business strategy” and will report directly to Hornblower Group CEO Kevin Rabbit, who said in a statement that, with new vessels and a company rebrand, the company was looking for someone to help lead AQV into its new phase.
“In order to expedite these goals, we need someone that can be charged with leading the organization with a deep knowledge of the industry, strong drive, and sharp business instincts to ensure we are taking the necessary steps in our growth plan. I am thrilled to welcome David, our friend, and cruise industry veteran, into the role of acting president,” Rabbit said.
Giersdorf is the second major hire for AQV over the past two months—the cruise line last month named Isis Ruiz as its new Chief Commercial Officer.
