Delta Air Lines will fly another direct route into Costa Rica starting later this year.
Delta this week confirmed that it will add a direct flight between New York’s JFK International (JFK) and Costa Rica’s Guanacaste Airport (LIR) in Liberia starting on Dec. 19, 2026. The flight will be seasonal, operating through the winter until April 10, 2027. Delta will fly the service on an Airbus A321neo jet.
Delta already flies into Guanacaste from Atlanta, Boston, Detroit, and Minneapolis. It also flies into San José’s Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO), Costa Rica’s busiest and largest airport, from Atlanta (ATL) and Los Angeles (LAX).
Guanacaste, as opposed to San José, gives travelers significantly better access to Costa Rica’s popular northern Pacific beaches. Flying into Liberia cuts the drive to luxury hubs like Peninsula Papagayo and Tamarindo/Playa Conchal down to anywhere from 35 minutes to 2 hours, compared to a 4-to-5-hour haul from San José.
