A strike by KLM’s ground staff has forced the airline to cancel more than 100 flights at its hub at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport (AMS) on Wednesday.
The airport and the union representing a large portion of KLM’s ground crew confirmed the temporary work stoppage will occur on Wednesday, September 24, from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. local time. The airport is advising all travelers flying in, to, or through Schiphol on Wednesday that their flight “may be delayed, changed, or canceled” because of the strike.
KLM has already announced it will cancel about 120 flights during that time. The airline and the airport are both urging passengers to check their flight status via the KLM app, website, or Schiphol’s flight tracker before heading to the airport.
KLM said it will automatically rebook passengers who miss a connection flight due to the strike.
The strike is the latest in a series of work stoppages. A two-hour strike on September 10 and a four-hour strike on September 17 both caused hundreds of flights to be canceled. A possible eight-hour strike is scheduled for October 1.
