Amsterdam Protesters Delay Another Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship

Environmental activists responsible for stopping and delaying Jewel of the Seas and Seven Seas Mariner, respectively, from docking at the Port of Amsterdam struck again over the weekend.

As reported by Barrons, the protesters again tied themselves to a lock near Ijmuiden stopping the progress of Serenade of the Seas. It was only after police arrived and removed the eight protesters that the ship was able to proceed into port.

The same day, the British cruise line Ambassador Cruise Line made the decision to switch its port of call to Ijmuiden in fear of a possible blockade.

Though police removed the protesters they were not arrested. Since the small group started its protests on Aug. 10, they have successfully stopped or delayed three cruise ships and an oil tanker in their progress toward Amsterdam. Two more ocean-going cruise ships are due in Amsterdam this month: Jewel of the Seas on Aug. 22 and an Ambassador ship on Aug. 26.
