WestJet is boosting its international service.

The Canadian carrier announced today that it would add a new service from Calgary to Reykjavik, Iceland starting on May 15, 2024. The addition will make WestJet the only carrier flying direct to Iceland from Calgary.

“Today’s announcement underscores our commitment to affordably connecting Canadians from coast-to-coast to some of the world’s most popular destinations,” said John Weatherill, WestJet Group Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer.

“As we continue to expand upon our growth story, we are not only providing increased accessibility to Canadians but fostering crucial connectivity between communities and driving economic growth through inbound leisure and business travel.”

WestJet will fly the service four times weekly. The carrier also said it is monitoring the potential of a volcanic eruption in Iceland this week.

At the same time, WestJet is gearing up for other additions already on the schedule for summer 2024. That includes four weekly flights from Halifax to Dublin, three weekly flights from Halifax to Edinburgh, four weekly from Halifax to London Gatwick, and daily service from Toronto to Dublin.

Out of Calgary, WestJet will also have daily service to Tokyo starting on April 3, six-time weekly service to Rom starting on March 16, four-time weekly service to Barcelona starting on April 30, along with daily service to Paris and London Heathrow.
