Air Canada is expanding its transborder network with new nonstop service between Edmonton International Airport (YEG) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), restoring a direct connection between Alberta’s capital and the New York metropolitan area for the first time since the pandemic.
The seasonal route will operate four times weekly from June 2 to October 17, 2027, providing travellers with a convenient gateway to one of North America’s leading business and leisure destinations.
Flights will depart Edmonton at 6 a.m., arriving in Newark at 12:30 p.m. local time.
Newark Liberty International Airport, located in New Jersey, serves the greater New York City region, offering access to Manhattan and surrounding areas.
The new service is being welcomed as a boost for northern Alberta, strengthening connections for business travellers, tourists and trade.
“This route opens the door to one of the world’s most important business, financial and cultural centres, creating new opportunities for tourism and trade while making it easier for people and businesses to connect,” said James Jackson, Edmonton International Airport’s vice-president of air service and business development, in a press release Friday (Oct. 16).
“Canada is an important international market”
In a separate statement, New York City Tourism + Conventions welcomed the news.
“Canada is an important international market for New York City, and we’re excited about opportunities to make the destination more accessible to travellers from across the country,” stated Jerry Cito, NYC Tourism + Conventions’ chief sales officer.
“This new connection offers Edmonton-area travellers another opportunity to experience everything that makes New York City special, from its iconic landmarks to the neighbourhood discoveries that make every visit unique.”
The new service is on the heels of New York City being named “Top City Break” by Air Canada Vacations for the second year in a row.
In 2025, New York City welcomed approximately 65 million visitors, generating $55.6 billion in direct visitor spending, according to NYC Tourism + Conventions.
Canada is New York City’s second-largest international market, with 820,000 visitors expected this year.
