Fuel Cost Bite Prompts Air Canada to Suspend Montreal-Algiers Summer Route
by Bruce Parkinson
Air Canada has suspended its seasonal Montreal-Algiers route for the summer of 2026.
In a statement the airline said, “Since the start of the conflict in Iran, the price of aviation fuel has doubled, impacting our least profitable routes and making them uneconomical to operate.”
Prior to the suspension, AC planned four weekly flights from Montreal to Algiers between June 1 and September 23.
The two-month old war in Iran has led to Air Canada cancelling a total of seven routes: Toronto/Montreal-New York JFK; Fort McMurray-Vancouver; Yellowknife-Toronto; Toronto-Salt Lake City; Montreal-Guadalajara; and Montreal-Algiers.
