Mexico is seeing an overall increase in international air travel, according to Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR), the Mexican airport operator that manages airports in Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Colombia.
ASUR announced that overall passenger traffic in the three countries for February 2026 reached a total of 5.7 million passengers, representing an increase of 1.6 per cent compared to February 2025.
Mexico Airport traffic across all Mexican destinations showed modest overall growth, driven largely by gains in international travel and strong performance at several regional airports. International passenger traffic overall in Mexico rose 3.4 percent to just over 2.0 million, with year-to-date growth of 2.9 percent to 4.17 million passengers.
That growth was led primarily by Cancun, which remains the dominant gateway and grew 3.3 percent over February 2025, welcoming 1,868,343 visitors in February 2026. In a distant second place was Cozumel, which welcomed 46,668 visitors last month, a 1 percent increase over the same time last year.
Many Canadian airlines have increased capacity to Mexico for 2026. Air Canada significantly expanded its summer service with a boost in seat capacity of 18 percent compared to last year. Key additions include new year-round service from Montréal to Guadalajara, along with increased frequencies to Cancun, Monterrey, Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta.
WestJet unveiled its largest-ever Mexico schedule this winter, which sees overall sun destination capacity grow by 8% over last year and includes seasonal service between Calgary and Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, marking the airline’s first-ever flights to the region.
