Porter Takes Off for Chicago O’Hare, Expanding U.S. Connections

Porter Airlines is strengthening its Toronto-Chicago network with the launch of twice-daily flights between Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), opening the door to more connections across the United States.

The new service marks a shift in Porter’s Chicago operations, giving passengers access to O’Hare’s extensive network and additional connecting opportunities through the airline’s codeshare partnership with American Airlines.

Travellers can connect through Chicago to destinations including Denver, Houston, Minneapolis, Orange County, San Diego and Seattle.

The move also coincides with the introduction of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Preclearance at Billy Bishop, allowing passengers to complete U.S. customs and immigration formalities before leaving Toronto.

“Since launching U.S. flights from YTZ in 2008, Porter has been committed to providing an elevated economy service between Toronto and key American cities, providing travellers with more choice and flexibility. The shift to O’Hare creates many new connecting itinerary options through our American Airlines partnerships for passengers travelling north and south,” said Andrew Pierce, vice president, network planning and reporting at Porter, in a press release.

Twice-Daily Service

The Toronto-Chicago route operates twice daily using Porter’s 78-seat De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft.

Flights from Billy Bishop depart at 10:10 a.m. and 4:35 p.m., while return services from Chicago O’Hare depart at 11:05 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Cabin Upgrades Underway

Passengers flying the new route will also benefit from Porter’s ongoing Dash 8-400 cabin modernization program.

All 29 aircraft in the fleet are being fitted with new TiSeat 2V Lite seating from Expliseat, featuring enhanced seat and back cushions designed to improve passenger comfort.

Additional upgrades include refreshed tray tables, personal electronic device holders for hands-free viewing, LED mood and reading lights, and new carpeting.

The first refurbished aircraft are already in service, with the airline expecting to complete the fleet-wide upgrades this fall.

Porter’s economy experience remains unchanged, including a two-by-two seating configuration with no middle seats, complimentary beer and wine served in glassware, and premium snacks.
