Holland America Line Adds Moose Conservation Excursion for 2026 Alaska Season
by Marsha Mowers
A new Alaska shore excursion from Holland America Line will debut during the 2026 Alaska cruise season and offer behind-the-scenes access to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC), allowing guests to observe moose and other native species in a natural setting.
Developed in partnership with AWCC, the Exclusive Eland & Friends Moose Discovery shore excursion will debut during the 2026 Alaska cruise season. The experience includes a scenic drive along Alaska’s Seward Highway and a guided, behind-the-scenes visit to the conservation centre.
Led by an AWCC naturalist, the all-ages tour offers insight into daily moose care, including enrichment activities, diet preparation, behavioural monitoring and training practices.
“Seeing wildlife is one of the top reasons guests choose to cruise Alaska,” said Kacy Cole, chief marketing officer for Holland America Line. “This new shore excursion gives our guests an extraordinary opportunity to connect with moose in a way that is both unforgettable and responsible, working alongside conservation experts to support the animals and the environment they call home.”

To further support moose care and enhance guest engagement, Holland America Line has donated $150,000 to AWCC. The contribution will fund ongoing animal care initiatives and the development of the Holland America Moose Promenade, an elevated boardwalk overlooking the moose habitat. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2026, with completion targeted for the 2027 Alaska cruise season.
Among the highlights is a chance to encounter Eland, a moose who’s a favourite among guests and an ambassador for moose conservation, who arrived at the centre in June 2025. Guests can contribute to AWCC through onboard purchases including cocktails that donate $1 for each one sold and via the sale of Eland stuffed toys.
