NYC Leads U.S. Cities with Most Rooms under Construction

December 15, 2015

New York City has the largest number of rooms under construction of any city in the United States, according to the Nov. 2015 STR Pipeline Report, and comprises 10% of the country’s hotel construction activity.

New York City reported 13,583 rooms under construction, followed by Houston with 6,169 rooms and five cities withmore than 3,000 rooms under construction, including  Dallas, Los Angeles/Long Beach, Washington D.C., Las Vegas, and Miami.

One city that did not do as well as well as expected is San Francisco, which ranked 22 out of the top 26 markets in rooms in construction. The lack of new hotels coming to the City by the Bay could mean prices in the already expensive city will rise.

Overall, there are 457,606 hotel rooms under construction or in planning in the United States, up 20.6% over Nov. 2014. Twenty markets experienced construction growth from last year.
