Intercontinental New York Barclay has been inducted into Historic Hotels of America. Also known as The Barclay, the property joins more than 300 hotels that have received this recognition.

“This distinction celebrates our hotel’s rich heritage and enduring commitment to hospitality,” said Sofia Vandaele, the hotel’s general manager and regional director of operations. “As a landmark of New York City’s history, we take great pride in preserving our legacy while continuing to offer guests timeless elegance in the heart of Manhattan.”

The Barclay, an IHG-managed hotel in Midtown Manhattan, was built in 1926 and now holds nearly 100 years of New York City history. Located just steps from the iconic train station, it was first developed as part of the Grand Central Terminal urban design plan and helped shape the key financial and commercial district. Over the decades, The Barclay has hosted famous guests such as Ernest Hemmingway and served as the New York HQ for a presidential campaign.

The 704-room hotel underwent a $180 million restoration in 2016. Its Presidential Suite and Harold S. Vanderbilt Penthouse Suite are among 32 specialty luxury suites. The hotel also features two ballrooms for weddings and events, as well as The Parlour bar and lounge.

Lawrence Horwitz, EVP of Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide, commended the Barclay’s leadership team for “their careful historic preservation work, stewardship and vision that will allow future generations of travelers to experience this unique historic destination.”
