The Hyatt Inclusive Collection’s return to Jamaica following the destruction caused by last fall’s ferocious Hurricane Melissa is a moving target as the company has once again pushed back the reopening of seven of its all-inclusive properties on the island.
In December, Hyatt said the resorts would reopen by the end of this year, but in a recent message to the travel trade it says it now has greater certainty of the full scope of work required and has shifted dates further into 2027, with specific timelines yet to be determined.
The affected properties include Breathless Montego Bay Resort & Spa, Dreams Rose Hall Resort & Spa, Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall, Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall, Secrets St. James Montego Bay, Secrets Wild Orchid Montego Bay and Jewel Grande Montego Bay Resort & Spa.
While disappointing for travel advisors and their clients, Hyatt says the delayed reopenings of these upscale and upper upscale properties will allow it to complete major upgrades in addition to the structural and cosmetic repairs required following the hurricane.
“We believe this adjusted timeline will not only allow the resorts to be fully restored, but also enhanced – emerging from this period with even stronger, more compelling properties that will deliver even more unforgettable experiences for our guests,” Hyatt stated in a message to the travel trade.
Future guests can expect refreshed guest rooms, updated public spaces, new dining concepts and infrastructure upgrades across the properties. In a highly competitive all-inclusive environment throughout the Caribbean and Mexico, that’s important.
Hyatt is offering options, with advisors and guests able to move bookings to other destinations including the Mexican Caribbean, Dominican Republic, Aruba, Curaçao, Costa Rica and Saint Lucia.
There is also flexibility for those who choose not to rebook. Reservations can be cancelled without penalty, giving the option to wait until the Jamaica properties return or select a different destination.
