Intrepid is inviting travel professionals in the Toronto area to participate in its annual charity walk on Sept. 8, raising money for the Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation.

Participants can sign up to walk as individuals or as part of a team. Eligible walkers will have a chance to win an Intrepid trip of their choice, valued at $2,350 CAD for every $235 raised.

“Raising just $168 can keep a child at risk in school for one year. $235 can reunite a trafficked victim with their family and provide them with emergency support to start over,” said Intrepid Chair Darrell Wade.

The local walk in Toronto will start and finish at the Intrepid office, located at 215 Spadina Avenue. Those who want to participate can choose between a meander (3k), micro (5k), mini (10k), half (21k) or full (42k) marathon.

In June, Intrepid appointed its first president of Canada as part of a restructuring for its North America executive leadership team. Industry veteran Christian Wolters stepped into the role July 1 and is based in Toronto.

The Intrepid Foundation, the small group adventure tour operator’s non-profit arm, hosts its flagship Marathon Walk every year, bringing together over 1,000 participants in major cities around the world.

Since 2018, Intrepid has worked with Vietnam-based non-profit Blue Dragon for the fundraiser, which provides rescue care, shelter, legal advocacy and long-term support to victims of human trafficking. Vietnam is a major destination for the tour operator: it was the top-selling market in 2023.

“Vietnamese communities have always welcomed us with open hearts and generous hospitality,” said Intrepid Foundation General Manager Biheng Zhang. “Participating in or sponsoring the marathon walk is our chance as an industry and as travellers to give back.”
