Tourism Cares Launches Meaningful Travel Map of the Nordic Nations

by Bruce Parkinson  October 29, 2025
Tourism Cares Launches Meaningful Travel Map of the Nordic Nations

Tourism Cares partners with destinations to create Meaningful Travel Maps.

Tourism Cares is inviting travellers and travel advisors to experience the Nordic region of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden through a new lens of sustainability with the launch of the Tourism Cares Meaningful Travel Map of The Nordics.

The interactive tool spotlights vetted sustainable partners and authentic local initiatives across the region, helping advisors build tours that actively benefit communities, protect cultural and natural heritage, and foster deeper connections between visitors and destinations.

With the Meaningful Travel Map as their guide, travel professionals can curate trips for visitors that supplement conventional travel, meeting local knowledge keepers, savouring seasonal cuisine, and joining tours or workshops that directly benefit communities. Whether cycling with chefs through Copenhagen’s neighbourhoods, engaging in green maritime activities, or connecting with local artisans, travellers are empowered to make every journey a force for good.

Renowned for its global leadership in environmental stewardship and social responsibility, The Nordics region is elevating its commitment to sustainable tourism through Tourism Cares’ Meaningful Travel Program, offering travellers an opportunity to experience the region’s breathtaking landscapes and vast cultural experiences in a way that is both adventurous and mindful.

The comprehensive map spotlights more than 45 bookable experiences, accommodations, and tours that regenerate both the region’s iconic natural beauty and local economies.

Greg Takehara, CEO, Tourism Cares.

“The Nordics has set a global standard as a destination cooperative that prioritizes both its people and place,” said Greg Takehara, CEO of Tourism Cares.

“This new Meaningful Travel Map highlights journeys where every stay, step, and meal creates a positive impact. We’re proud to partner with the destination leaders and local organizations of The Nordics to help ensure visitors’ dollars reach deeper into local communities, while supporting the region’s long-term prosperity and cultural preservation.”

Christina Koontz, U.S. project manager for The Nordics, stated:

“This collaboration puts The Nordics’ philosophy of balance and stewardship on the world stage. We want every traveller to experience sustainability not as a choice, but as the heart of the journey. The Nordics has long believed that travel should regenerate the places and people it touches, and by building a Meaningful Travel Map of The Nordics, we invite the world to discover not just our landscapes but our commitment to community, inclusivity, and climate action.”

Growing to more than 700 vetted partners worldwide, the Tourism Cares Meaningful Travel Map is fast becoming a trusted platform guiding responsible itineraries in nearly 50 destinations across six continents. Future expansions of the Map will continue connecting travellers to grassroots tourism initiatives across new regions in 2026 and beyond.
