VIDEO: Los Cabos’ Rodrigo Esponda Eyes Record 300K Canadian Visitors; Air Capacity Soars 35%
by Travel Market Report CanadaLos Cabos is on track for a record year from Canada, with approximately 300,000 Canadian visitors expected in 2026, thanks in part to a 35 per cent increase in airline seat capacity.
Speaking to Travel Market Report Canada‘s John Kirk at the 20th anniversary of the Los Cabos VIP Summit, Rodrigo Esponda, managing director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board, said Canada is becoming an increasingly important market as U.S. visitor numbers soften.
“The Canadian market is becoming truly, truly, truly important because we are [seeing] a little decrease from the total volume of travellers from the United States,” he said.
Esponda said airline seat capacity from Canada is up 35 per cent for the October-to-March winter season compared to the previous year, driven by new routes and expanded service.
Among the additions are new connections from Porter Airlines, Air Transat‘s flights to Los Cabos from Montreal and a new WestJet flight from Regina.
Esponda added that Canadians also tend to stay longer than American visitors, making them particularly valuable to the destination’s tourism economy.
TMR Canada’s interview took place during the Los Cabos VIP Summit, held Oct. 25–27, in Cabo San Lucas.
