Hotels On Uber Arrives in Canada After U.S. Debut
by Bruce Parkinson
Uber has added hotels to its Canadian booking platform.
Uber is officially rolling out Hotels on Uber in Canada, making it the second market globally after the U.S. to get the feature.
Through a partnership with Expedia Group, Canadians can now use the Uber app to search, book, and secure rides to a wide selection of hotels, which will ultimately grow to more than 700,000 properties in destinations around the globe.
Uber One members get an added incentive: 10% back in Uber credits on hotel bookings, plus savings on a curated selection of 10,000+ hotels.
The launch builds on a broader push into travel that Uber previewed at its GO-GET showcase earlier this year, including:
- Travel Mode: a location-aware concierge that delivers local recommendations, restaurant bookings (via OpenTable), and in-app “room service” delivery when you land in a new city.
- Uber One International: extending member benefits like credits and $0 delivery fees to rides and orders abroad.
- One Search: a unified “Where to?” search across rides, food, and retail in one bar.
Observers see some limitations in the current Hotels on Uber product, including that users can currently book only one room per reservation and that bookings may not include brand-specific loyalty benefits.
Uber does not charge an additional booking fee, although hotels may still collect taxes or resort fees. For frequent Uber users—especially Uber One members—Hotels on Uber might be a convenient way to earn credits while keeping hotel bookings, airport rides, and food delivery all within a single app.
