AmaWaterways Debuts AmaMelodia on Magdalena River

AmaWaterways is celebrating the launch of AmaMelodia this week, its second ship to sail the Magdalena River, expanding the company’s presence in the region.

The 64-guest AmaMelodia was designed for comfort and immersion. Guests enjoy staterooms with both French and outdoor twin balconies from which they can enjoy the views of Colombia’s rich scenery. Inside the ship, locally inspired Latin American cuisine and hand-crafted décor by local artisans embody the region’s rich culture and spirit.

AmaMelodia currently sails two seven-night itineraries that explore the Magdalena River Valley: Magic of Colombia and Wonders of Colombia.

AmaMelodia joins AmaMagdalena, AmaWaterway’s first ship to sail the Magdalena River in Colombia, which launched in April of this year.

“After seeing the incredible response to AmaMagdalena earlier this year, we are thrilled to welcome AmaMelodia to the AmaWaterways fleet” said Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways. “Launching these two ships has been an extraordinary collaboration with our Colombian partners. Together, we are not only creating unforgettable travel experiences for our guests but also helping to build a sustainable foundation for tourism that benefits local communities along the river.”

AmaWaterways is the first major cruise line to operate sailings on this river. The company announced its plans to enter Colombia back in 2021, with an original launch date of November 2024. AmaWaterways pushed back its Magdalena River debut repeatedly, adjusting the first sailing dates for both ships.

“Seeing AmaMelodia set sail is very meaningful to me,” said Kristin Karst, co-founder and chief brand ambassador of AmaWaterways. “Over the past three years, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with our Colombian partners and witnessing the incredible pride and passion that define this country. From its talented artisans to the warm communities along the riverbanks, Colombia’s spirit is woven into every detail of this ship.”
