The much-anticipated Celebrity Edge has arrived home.
The newest ship from Celebrity Cruises landed at Port Everglades’ Terminal 25 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, yesterday, finishing its 15-day transatlantic crossing from the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire France.
Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean Cruises executives were on hand to greet the ship, including Royal’s Richard D. Fain and Celebrity President and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo.
“This has been more than four years in the making,” said Lutoff-Perlo. “The collaboration and effort between teams across the world all comes together in this incredible moment. I can think of no better place to be than with Captain Costas and the crew of Celebrity Edge, knowing that we are sailing into the future, literally and figuratively, with this beautiful ship.”
The ship includes the new Edge Stateroom, which will have an Infinite Veranda, giving guests open-air access to the sea, along with new digital control of the stateroom’s lighting, shades, and temperature. It will offer two new Iconic Suites, each with two bedrooms and two bathrooms at nearly 2,600 square feet.
It also includes the first Magic Carpet, a traveling platform the size of a tennis court hanging off the side of the ship that will offer a full bar, live music area, meeting space, and an open-air dining venue.
“The arrival of Celebrity Edge today bookends a major chapter in the growth of Celebrity Cruises. It’s the culmination of years of dreaming, designing and dedication to bring this magnificent ship to life. A new era is truly upon us,” Fain said.
The ship will kick off a season of eastern and western Caribbean sailings starting on Dec. 9. It will then move to the Mediterranean next year.
