Massachusetts AG Recovers $1 Million-Plus for Consumers from Vantage Travel
by Dori Saltzman /The Massachusetts’ Attorney General has recovered more than $1.23 million from customers of Vantage Travel, according to WCVB, Channel 5. The business, which has been in trouble for several months, is the subject of at least one lawsuit and more than 800 consumer complaints, many dating back to 2020.
Of these, some 75 were filed by Massachusetts residents, for whom the Attorney General’s Consumer Advocacy and Response team has recovered more than $1.23 million.
The trouble for Vantage Travel started in April when it claimed it was hit by a ransomware attack. In the subsequent weeks and months, the company canceled several cruises, including four river cruises in the Netherlands and two Egypt trips.
Earlier this month, the Boston Globe reported that Vantage was engaged in negotiations for a possible sale. No further information has been released regarding that sale.
Vantage is not a member of the USTOA, so customers are not protected by the Association’s $1 Million Travelers Assistance Program.
