Royal Caribbean Group (RCL) has placed an order with Meyer Turku for two more Icon Class ships – the sixth and seventh in the class – to be delivered in 2029 and 2030, respectively.
The order is part of the company’s long-term agreement with the shipyard that secures the Group’s access to shipbuilding capacity through 2036 and includes the previously announced fifth Icon Class ship to be delivered in 2028. The collaboration between Royal Caribbean Group and Meyer Turku spans more than three decades, during which the shipyard has built 25 ships for the company.
With the new order, Royal Caribbean International will be debuting one new Icon Class ship every year through 2030, starting this year with Legend of the Seas this summer, followed by Hero of the Seas in 2027.
“The Icon Class reflects our bold creativity and engineering excellence that continues to define what a vacation can be,” said Jason Liberty, chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group.
In addition to the Icon Class ships on order, Royal Caribbean is also building two ships in the all-new Discovery Class. Being built at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint Nazaire, France, the first ship is set to debut in 2029 and the second in 2032. No details about the Class have been revealed, but Liberty has previously talked about wanting to build smaller ships than the Oasis and Icon Class.
